Flamenco clicks in Bay Area

When acclaimed flamenco artist Concha Vargas dances in Saratoga tonight and Mountain View on Friday, don't expect the stout Gypsy from Seville to wear a billowy polka-dot dress or dangle a rose from her teeth.
Those stereotypes were created by the tourism industry and Hollywood. Vargas' brand of flamenco is the real deal, an authentic serving of the earthy song and dance of the Gypsies of southern Spain.
Surprisingly, perhaps nowhere outside Iberia is the flamenco tradition more revered than in the Bay Area, which has become the home to a vibrant mix of flamenco performers, instructors and presenters. (leer +)
