(noticia) Food and flamenco: Spania opens in familiar location for Spanish-food lovers

By: GARY WARTH - Staff Writer

Fans of Spanish food and flamenco dancing did not have to mourn long after the closing of Cafe Sevilla in Carlsbad. The restaurant has reopened with new owners and a new name, Spania, but has much of the look of its predecessor.

"It was so perfectly set up the way it was, we didn't want to change it," co-owner Svetlana Zelman said while standing in the restaurant's dining room.

Zelman owns Spania with her husband, Jimmy Yahyai. Both are immigrants to the United States, but don't assume they are from Spain. She is from Russia and he is Iranian.

While Spania does look much like Cafe Sevilla, there are subtle differences. Bartender Josh Rosenbaum added his own personal touch to the sangria ---- a bit of orange liqueur makes it more fruity ---- but he did not want to make it too different.
