Gipsy Kings please the crowd with world-music melodies

FORT WORTH - Right from the start, the Gipsy Kings were in charge of their destiny -- as well as of the will of their audience -- Thursday night at Bass Performance Hall.

Sometimes you just have to let the music carry you, and that is what happened. There were times when the hall looked more like a ballroom than the solemn place it usually is.

The raspy voice of lead singer Nicolas Reyes was almost inaudible at moments, but it was not his fault. It was the energetic volume of the audience clapping. People in the crowd were so enthusiastic that by the second song, Djobi, Djoba, they were on their feet.
