After many months of preparation, the historic town of Plymouth will debut its First Annual Independent Film Festival tonight with an opening night gala.

Celebrating the completion of the hard work behind them and the Festival's premiere, the First Annual Festival Opening Reception and Benefit Party will offer thanks to the 200 or so invited guests who have supported the event.

With a theme of ‘‘Rhythm in Film,'' the party will feature a flamenco dancer named La Conja and a sampling of Spanish fare on the menu. It is being held at the Gainesborough Room and outdoor courtyard at Plimoth Plantation.

In keeping with the film festival's overall theme of cultural diversity and environmental issues, the gala promises to offer guests ‘‘a cultural treat they've probably not ever seen in Plymouth,'' said festival co-creator Lisa Mattei.
