WHEN: 4-8 p.m. today; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Barbecue cook-off is Saturday; guitar shows today through Sunday; guitar workshops Saturday and Sunday (registration required, cost $25-$90.)

Last summer, during his annual trip to Madrid, where he goes to study flamenco guitar and soak up the Mediterranean culture that's threaded through that musical genre's DNA, Steve Calafati visited the luthier's workshop where his handcrafted guitar was made.

While he was there, a man came in — "just a dude from off the street," Calafati recalls — and began to play a guitar in the flamenco style so incredibly well that Calafati was in awe.
