Somewhere near Helotes, two guys sat around in a Wild West-themed room strumming guitars, Ovation guitars, running through bits and pieces of songs by Robert Johnson, Willie Nelson and Loggins & Messina.

Later the duo moved to the tailgate of a pickup and launched into bluegrass riffs. Not abnormal, but a bit disconcerting. These weren't a pair of pickers getting ready for some campfire jamming or a dance hall gig. These two are Lara & Reyes, guitarists Sergio Lara and Joe Reyes, highly touted and glowingly reviewed Latin jazz/nuevo flamenco guitar aces preparing for a jazz gig, their first together in five years.
