For more than 30 years, María Benítez Teatro Flamenco was defined by the moments when La Benítez's proud profile and consummate grace dominated the stage. Her concentration lit the room up like a lava flow, and she set a standard to judge the rest of the company by.

This year and last, Benítez has eschewed performing to concentrate on choreographic and educational projects, including her young Next Generation dancers. But as Sunday's performance at Radisson Santa Fe showed, flamenco remains vested in her ensemble's hands and hearts: Dancers and musicians did riveting and almost always consistent work.
