Flamenco crops up all over town these days, commanding a large and loyal audience. But the annual New York Flamenco Festival, presented by the World Music Institute and an organization called Flamenco Festival Inc., remains the apex of the year's flamenco festivities.

The 2006 New York presentations, of both dance and music, got under way on Feb. 3 with three musical concerts at the Skirball Theater, Symphony Space and Town Hall, and they culminate this week with dance performances (which naturally also include music) at City Center. On Wednesday was the Gala Flamenca, an all-star assemblage. There were further performances in Washington, Boston and Chicago, and a North American tour by the Nuevo Ballet Espagñol, and comparable events in London.
