Flamenco dancing may be more associated with Spain than France, but it is Paris that will play host to visiting experts in the dramatic dance form during the International Flamenco Festival.

Believed to have originated with the Andalusian Gypsies, flamenco is characterised by its vigorous movements, forceful hand clapping, stamping and colourful dresses.

It is also accompanied by equally evocative and erotically charged guitar music and often conveys a sense of intense passion tinged with tragedy.
