Garcia's Dance studio celebrates 10 years

Laura Garcia Haas, the director of Garcia Dance Studio in Lompoc, began dancing when she was 7 years old. Her life has revolved around the art, specifically flamenco, ever since.

In 1986, she won the Spirit of Fiesta title, a prestigious dance award, in Santa Barbara. A time of reflection followed for Garcia Haas.

“I had my competition at 16,” Garcia Haas said. “Once you win, you either keep pursuing flamenco or do something else.” She chose the latter, traveling to Spain to learn more about the art.

Eventually, she met her husband, who was enlisted in the Air Force. She relocated back to the United States, and established her first dance studio in 1997 on Vandenberg Air Force Base, providing recreation for military families.
