Jesse Cook explores the frontiers of flamenco

Popular Toronto guitarist/composer tours in support of his sixth album, Frontiers

By Kerry Doole

It may have been four years since Toronto guitarist and songwriter Jesse Cook released his last studio album, 2003’s Nomad, but he has scarcely been idle since. He released a live album, Montreal, negotiated a new record deal with EMI Music Canada, fathered his first child, and spent time living in Seville, Spain, soaking up the sounds of his principal musical love, the flamenco.
This hard-working musician’s new CD (his seventh), Frontiers, has just been released, and is being met with positive reviews and strong early sales. Tandem talked to Jesse just prior to a show early in an extensive Canadian concert tour that will see him headline historic Massey Hall on April 28.
