The OU School of Music will present a flamenco guitar concert performed by Ronald Radford 8 p.m. Saturday in the Paul F. Sharp Concert Hall.
Radford said his love for flamenco guitar began in high school when his mother played a Carlos Montoya record.
"It was one of the greatest discoveries in my life," he said.
Radford said he gave up rock music to pursue flamenco, practicing eight to 10 hours a day. His new love for flamenco guitar was something many of his friends could not understand.
"My friends thought I was crazy. They thought I was doing something weird," he said. "But it's hard to explain a passion, because it's something that just happens. Thanks to my mom's support I made it. She believed in me."
Carlos Montoya eventually came though Tulsa, where Radford was living at the time. Radford said he was able to go backstage after the concert and meet his music idol.
"It was amazing," he said. "He invited me to come out to New York and the rest is history."
