Los Alamos native Brian Strittmatter, 20, began strumming flamenco-guitar music about 11 years ago.

"It was the only instrument in the house," Strittmatter said during a recent interview at Las Salsas Restaurant in White Rock where he performs on Friday evenings.

Strittmatter said he has always loved music and enjoyed imitating bands he liked.

"I began using a guitar that was a gift to my dad, but had stayed in the closet," he said.

Strittmatter completed his studies at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood last year.

"I took audio engineering to have something to fall back on but I got in on a lot of classical and flamenco guitar while I was there," he said. "A lot of the teachers were the coolest people and were really good instructors."
