Flamenco finds a fitting foil

The Spanish dance cozies up to its Latin cousin, tango, to create Flamentango, a new show from Maria Serrano

A dance form that once fiendishly protected its traditional purity, flamenco now seems to recognize no stylistic bounds. When Flamentango plays Place des Arts next weekend, it will be the latest in a long stream of flamenco fusion shows to hit town over the past decade (the show was here briefly without fanfare last year). This time round, the Spanish dance meets a transatlantic Latin cousin - Argentinian tango, a dance that's undergoing radical and surprising transformations of its own.
