José Luis Amado del Olmo, Owner of “La revuelo” souvenir shop
Alejandro Díaz
“Italian tourists spend more on souvenirs when they travel”
Until relatively recently souvenir shops could only be found on the promenades of certain coastal resorts on the Costa del Sol. However now, with more and more visitors flocking to Malaga city centre, this type of business is flourishing.
What made you decide to open a souvenir shop in Malaga?
I had been working as a street market trader for more than 22 years. I knew that there were good business opportunities in Malaga city centre when the Picasso Museum opened and I found these premises and opened up.
What type of tourist spends the most on souvenirs?
Without doubt, the Italians. They don’t just buy for themselves but also for their family and friends. They have only one problem: they love the word “discount”. South Americans resident in the USA also spend a lot of money. The British tend just to buy one gift, for themselves.
