Belly dance is is not just something Leilainia Adelaide does. It defines her.

And don't try convincing her that belly dance is simply a hobby. It is who she is.

"When I'm dancing, I am transported to another place where movement just happens," Adelaide said. "When I dance it is my spirit that comes and is shared with the audience. I am transported where time stops and everything is still."

Leilainia (pronounced lay-lain-ya) Adelaide is one part of a San Diego sister act, The Shimmy Sisters, who will perform at tonight's Belly Dance and Flamenco Gala at the Hal Marcus Gallery.
