(noticia) Ole! for Flamenco Festival

The Latin music scene, typically quiet during the dreary days of January, perks up this week with the fourth annual Flamenco Festival.

Co-sponsored by the Instituto Cervantes de Chicago and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, the festival presents concerts, dance performances, workshops, films and lectures through Feb. 14. The festival begins in earnest with a free concert by Antonio Pitingo at 7 p.m. Thursday in Preston Bradley Hall of the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington.

A rising star in the traditional cante jondo (deep song) style, Pitingo made his U.S. debut at last year's flamenco festival. For his Thursday performance, he will be joined by guitarist Luis Miguel Valle Manzano and dancer Fernando Soto Valencia.
