Chandigarh, December 29: ‘‘FLAMENCO is the encounter of joy and sorrow in rhythm,” is how Pedro Soler introduces his muse. And he truly understands the art of expressing these emotions.

The Catalan guitarist remains true to the tradition of Flamenco, not showing off in technical tours de force, but playing with remarkable finesse, not least in the silky, extraordinarily melodious and lively rhythm. In town for a riveting concert organised by Alliance Francaise, in association with the French Embassy and the ICCR at Baba Makhan Shah Lobana Hall, the solo Flamenco guitarist took his audience on a journey through legacies of the empires... singing of the Andalusian chants, folk songs and lullabies in Spain. Narrating the centuries-old story of Moor’s rule over Spain all the while adorning the Gypsy garb, Soler traced the Spanish history and brought it closer to India.
