Flamenco and fish at the Port

POLITICIANS, media types and invited guests converged in Port Adelaide yesterday to enjoy a mix of flamenco dancing and fish and chips as the Port Festival 2007 was launched.

Teresa Crea, artistic director of the festival, says the celebration is not only important for the local area but for the entire city.

"The Port is an iconic, important place in Adelaide and it's time that it had its own festival," she says.

"There's a lot of change and redevelopment down here, and the spirit is 'Yeah, let's make it happen. Come down and have a look. See what's happening'."

"Plus, its going to be great fun."

The inaugural event came about through the hard work of the Port Centre Co-ordination group, the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and the festival team.

"It's really a celebration for the people, by the people."

Teresa says there's something for everyone at this year's festival.
