Off the Beaten Path

The highest-profile dance companies generally perform at the Kennedy Center, but that is by no means the only venue in the area for dance. Several performances worth investigating are to be found this season on a few of the college campuses that dot the area. Depending on where you live, some of these theaters will be farther-flung than others -- George Mason University, for example, is nearly an hour's drive from the Maryland suburbs, while the University of Maryland presents a long haul for those around the Beltway. But many of the programs merit the trip. And you won't pay those premium Kennedy Center parking rates, not to mention the ticket prices.
